Derek Jones – Profile
Derek is a new member of the team and brings to Thinkingitbetter a wealth of experience from working in all of the major business sectors Rolls Royce Plc operates in for over 21 years.
Derek is a Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and has gained recognition for his excellent team working and leadership skills in coordinating and delivering a highly complex multi-million pound Research and Technology programme for the last 8 years in support of the Royal Navy’s Nuclear Propulsion Programme. Derek is keen to deploy his skills in particular deconstructing complex
problems to help teams work more successfully following the ethos and values of Thinkingitbetter with a keen focus on both the behaviours and technical skills. He has worked on projects to deliver new methods for carrying out structural integrity assessments, material selection and testing, chemistry optimisation and modelling and non-destructive examination techniques along with the development of a range of novel advanced manufacturing techniques.
Prior to this he worked in systems design, including plant lifetime extension activities, whole plant trials as well as design and installation of dockyard systems to control reactivity and perform plant decontamination.
Derek’s early career involved complete of the Rolls Royce graduate training scheme, roles working on military aero engine modelling and test followed by real-time whole engine control system modelling, testing and development on large civil gas turbines.
